The K-8 custom education academy combines a high-quality curriculum with a flexible lifestyle for students and parents.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, May 4, 2023 / EINPresswire.com / KTLA.com / TodayinParenting.com / CaliforniaEntertainmentPress.com — Seashore Academy, established in Orange County in 2012, has opened its 4th campus “Westside in West Los Angeles. The new campus will be at the Leo Baeck Temple located in the same beautiful neighborhood that hosts the Getty Center. The academy provides families with both the quality of an elite private education as well as the flexibility and freedom provided to homeschoolers. Families may customize each student’s academic schedule to best suit the individual needs of each child.

Seashore Academy is giving the gift of an old school childhood while also providing families with the ability to have a flexible and custom education that complements and adds to their lifestyle.”

— Marlene Dandler, founder and CEO

“We are very excited to have found our 4th home at 1300 N. Sepulveda Blvd in Los Angeles,” said Marlene Dandler, founder and CEO. “Post-covid, families have a variety of unique needs and how they approach education is changing. Seashore Academy is giving the gift of an old school childhood while also providing families with the ability to have a flexible and custom education that complements and adds to their lifestyle.”

The academy hosts multiple qualities that set it apart from the current general offerings for education, including:

– All Seashore campuses incorporate a device-free, screen-free education that allows students to thrive in a creative and intellectually-curious environment that focuses on collaborative learning and an academically intensive curriculum.

– The school custom-tailors schedules for all students. Allowing students to be dropped off from 1x/week up to 5x/week. The model works exceptionally well for competitive athletes, performers, and families who travel or live in multiple locations. While the school is a disciplined, patriotic environment, they respect parents’ rights to drop off late and do not mark students up for tardies or absences.

– At a 15:1 student-to-teacher ratio, teachers work closely with students to determine academic progress and proper grade-level placement for each subject. Data is used to provide an individualized education plan focused on student interests, strengths, and areas of improvement. Students at varying grade levels for different subjects work at their own pace to master concepts.

– The academy provides education on financial management, entrepreneurship, public speaking, and additional customized education applications. The OC campuses provide language immersion classes that are inspired by the Rassias Method, a language immersion technique used by the Peace Corps. Seashore Academy currently employs 3 Olympic Gold Medalists as staff working with children and families.

Marlene Dandler, founder and CEO, was inspired to launch the academy, with its unique philosophy on education, when she was looking for her own freedom-minded community that provided meaningful education for her own children.

Seashore Academy is enrolling for the Fall 2023 semester. Parents interested in learning more about the launch of their Pre-K offerings can sign up at https://seashoreacademy.org/preschool/.

As a teacher, creating a positive and engaging learning environment is crucial for the success of both you and your students. Establishing effective classroom strategies can help you achieve this goal. Courtesy of Seashore Academy , here are some best practices for teachers to establish effective classroom strategies. Use a Planner Using a planner can help you keep track of everything you need to do as a teacher. You can use it to plan lessons, keep track of deadlines, and schedule meetings. Make sure to include important dates such as holidays, parent-teacher conferences, and staff development days to avoid any scheduling conflicts. Get Organized At the beginning of the school year, take the time to get organized. This includes creating a seating chart , organizing your materials, and setting up routines and procedures for your classroom. By starting the year off organized, it will be easier to maintain throughout the rest of the year. Easily Share Documents Digitizing documents into easily shared PDFs is a fantastic approach to staying organized and conserving space. This can make sharing files with colleagues. Saving all documents as PDFs in designated folders for future reference can be difficult so you might need a file converter to make it easier and faster to stay organized. Create Folders and Bins Creating folders and bins for different materials such as handouts, homework assignments, and reference materials can help you keep everything organized. Label each folder or bin clearly so that students know where to find what they need. This not only keeps your classroom organized but also helps students become more independent in their learning. Make Time for Lesson Planning Make sure to set aside time each day for lesson planning. This will help ensure that you have everything you need for each lesson and can adjust your plans as needed. Use this time to reflect on previous lessons and think about how you can improve them. Set SMART Goals Set SMART goals for yourself and your students. This means setting goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Once you have set your goals, make plans to achieve them. This can include breaking them into smaller pieces that are more manageable. Break Goals into Smaller Pieces Breaking goals into smaller pieces is an effective way to make them achievable and manageable . By taking a large goal and dividing it into smaller steps, you can create a clear path to success. For instance, improving student performance in a particular subject can be achieved by breaking it down into identifying areas of weakness, creating lesson plans that address these weaknesses, and monitoring progress over time. Develop Routines for Students Establishing routines and procedures can help students feel more comfortable and confident in the classroom. This can include routines such as starting each class with a bell ringer or having a designated time for homework assignments. Helping students develop routines can also improve their time management and organizational skills. Establishing effective classroom strategies is essential for any teacher looking to create a positive and engaging learning environment. By taking steps like using a planner to track everything, getting organized at the beginning of the year, and digitizing all documents into easily shared PDFs, you can create a successful and rewarding classroom experience for both you and your students. Remember, it's never too late to implement these strategies and start improving your classroom today. At Seashore Academy , we’re passionate about learning. If you have any questions, we’d love to hear from you !

Dr. Bob has a great conversation with Marlene Dandler, Founder of Seashore Academy. Marlene Sheehan Dandler started Seashore Academy at her kitchen table in 2011. Since then, Seashore has been known for not only it’s high-quality academics but it’s a custom schooling module. Parents may drop off from 1 to 5 days per week, and 100% of the students are legally homeschooled. Seashore offers robust academics, patriotic uniforms, intimate class sizes, zero screen time (No chrome books! No tablets! No smart phones!) & a joy-filled learning environment. In addition, Seashore students are taught traditional values including the Pledge of Allegiance, respect for teachers, respect and kindness for each other, hard work, discipline, integrity and inclusiveness. Don’t miss this wonderful conversation!

Marlene Sheehan Dandler is the Founder of Seashore Academy. Marlene graduated from the Lakeside School in Seattle, WA in 1994 and Dartmouth College in 1998. During her time at Dartmouth, she studied at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany as well as at the Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China. While at Dartmouth, Marlene worked as a German language instructor for Professor John Rassias, the creator of the Rassias Method, a unique, intensive language immersion technique used by the Peace Corps to learn a foreign language in 10 days’ time. This revolutionary method of rapid, effective language acquisition impressed Marlene greatly and became the foundation of Seashore Academy’s language immersion philosophy. When her own three children were ready to start school, Marlene visited over 2 dozen public, charter and private schools searching for an academically intensive, nurturing school in which her children would be immersed in a foreign language. Marlene and her husband decided to immerse their three children in Mandarin Chinese to best prepare them for future business and work opportunities. As there were no Mandarin immersion programs in Orange County at the time, Marlene spearheaded a successful effort to launch a public Mandarin immersion district school in Orange, CA, which operates to this day. While building the program, she homeschooled her children with a private Mandarin tutor. Today, all of the children at the Seashore Mandarin program, including Marlene’s own three children, speak, read and write Mandarin Chinese in traditional characters. They work in an academically accelerated environment and enjoy plenty of free time to read and play.
a psychology today article about 3 ways non-traditional schooling transforms a child 's future
By Garrett Handley 24 May, 2023
Non-traditional schools are revolutionizing the way we learn. Key Points More parents are opting for their children to be homeschooled. There has been a rise in hybrid homeschooling institutions. A feature of Montessori education that plays an important role in helping children thrive as adults, in terms of psychological well-being, is the emphasis on students taking charge of their own learning in a welcoming, collaborative, and positive environment. So, can going off the beaten track with non-traditional schooling really equip your child with the tools they need to deal with what comes after? Here are three things a non-traditional school can offer that can change the game when it comes to your child’s mental health. #1. A focus on collaborative and holistic learning, mimicking the challenges of the real world An important advantage of a non-traditional school over a conventional approach to education is that it can be tailored to the needs of students and is not restricted by the requirements of a centrally-prescribed curriculum. “Our science and history curriculums are designed to be interactive,” explains Marlene Dandler, the founder and CEO of Seashore Academy, a group of custom schools offering a fresh take on what childhood education can be. “In history, students reenact lessons in skits and thus learn to interact, negotiate, communicate, and work in teams. In science, our hands-on laboratory exercises also promote collaboration and interactive discussions. These invaluable skills directly translate into enhanced relationships throughout life, which is linked to overall life satisfaction and success.” A 2018 study published in the Journal of Workplace Behavioral Health found that people’s ability to socialize effectively at (and after) work is crucial to their life satisfaction. A non-traditional school that emphasizes the importance of interaction between students can be a place to familiarize children with an actual workplace environment, where your ability to collaborate and socialize is as important as your technical proficiency. Students of non-traditional schools are taught to think critically at a very young age. At Seashore Academy, for instance, life-skill subjects like entrepreneurship, financial management, and public speaking are given the same importance as academic subjects like mathematics, science, and history. These practical life-skills are important pieces of the puzzle when it comes to a child feeling independent and confident about navigating their life after school. #2. A controlled approach to digitizing education by restricting students’ screen time
